Update on Baby S

To keep everyone updated on the progress of her tests and surgery...

The Cat Scan was supposed to be yesterday and Dr. appointment today, however those have been changed to next week. It appears they will be switching doctors because the Neurosurgeon they have been working with is not very familiar with this type of surgery and of course when your child is having a major surgery, you want the best surgeon for the job. They have found a husband/wife neurosurgical team that has performed this surgery at least 300 times on other children including one surgery on their own son. This change in doctors might continue to delay the scheduling of tests and the surgery...but they are not concerned because her case is fairly mild. Most babies have this surgery between 8 and 10 months of age and have minor pain afterwards.

Baby S

It was brought to my attention that now that I have a blog...I should write on it. I didn't think my first official blog entry would be a sad one, but I've got to start somewhere.

My best friend for over 15 years has been married for 8 years and has been blessed with 2 children - a son who is 5 and a daughter who is 6 months. She learned Friday that her daughter has to have surgery ASAP to remove a section of her skull that has fused prematurely. I don't know alot about medical terminology and how things work, but it has been summarized for me like this... A baby is born with a skull in sections and it fuses together at about 18 months old. It allows the baby time to grow and for the brain and body to develop. One side of the baby's skull has fused way too early and to elimitate developmental issues or pressure on the brain, they must correct the issue. It is very scary and from what I have heard, not rare but also not common. I probably won't post again until I'm back in town after her surgery. PRAYERS!
